Queer Beans

Visual brand development in the 2nd semester (academic year 2024)

by Agnes Wallner, Katharina Fisch, Nicola Toth, Mascha Lebedew

Queer Beans is a conceptual café based in Munich, designed to serve as a safe space for queer individuals. The idea was to create a place that stands not only for high-quality coffee but also for visibility, belonging, and empowerment. As part of the project, a comprehensive visual identity was developed that brings together design, attitude, and a sense of community.

At the center of the brand is the mascot QUEAN, a playful combination of "queer," "bean," and a reference to "queen." With charm and confidence, it expresses the brand’s identity. The color palette includes shades such as Rainbow Red, Prideful Pink, and Espresso Brown, which together communicate warmth, strength, and diversity. The typeface Brice Black creates a bold and expressive impact, while Euclid adds clarity and modernity to the body text.

A variety of brand applications were designed, including business cards, stationery, website screens, posters, and a graphic coffee bean pattern. The identity was extended through merchandise like beanies, socks, coffee mugs, and tote bags, and even applied to a delivery bike featuring a custom-designed backpack. Every brand touchpoint communicates the queer spirit that makes Queer Beans a vibrant place of inclusion and diversity.

This brand identity combines playfulness with purpose, community with design, and makes it clear that Queer Beans is more than just a café. It is a visible statement for acceptance, self-determination, and solidarity.
